Saudi Global Conference on Occupational Safety and Health Concludes in Riyadh


Riyadh: The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) concluded yesterday the sixth edition of the Saudi Global Conference for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), held here from May 5 to 7 under the slogan “Scanning the Horizon”.

The conference attracted over 8,000 participants from all over the world, and over 100,000 participated virtually.

Engaging sessions featuring over 169 key speakers delved into over 15 specialized OSH topics, exploring best regional and global practices.

The conference tackled the Kingdom’s endeavors and pioneering experiences in the field of OSH, as well as its legislative, regulatory, and executive initiatives aimed at bolstering this sector.

An exhibition accompanying the conference showcased the history and evolution of OSH, along with the role played by the council in realizing Saudi Vision 2030 objective of increasing the attractiveness, safety, and sustainability of the Saudi labor market.

Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and NCOSH Ch
airman Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi launched the council’s website at the opening of the conference. This website offers a range of services, including training program for investigators of work accidents and injuries, as well as occupational diseases. It also facilitates the documentation of reports and investigation results related to such incidents and accidents, and provides specialized training programs.

Delegates from the International Labor Organization, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), ministries of several Gulf nations, and attendees from Djibouti, Mauritania, Comoros, and Somalia attended the conference.

The conference concluded with the signing of 16 memoranda of understanding and agreements to bolster cooperation in OSH.

Key recommendations included leveraging Saudi Arabia’s expertise in digital transformation to the benefit of OSH systems, collaborating with international organizations to exchange knowledge, and incentivizing organizations to prioritize OSH standards.

Several entities, such as the
General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI), the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco), the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), and the Saudi Aramco Nabors Drilling Company (SANAD), came together to sponsor and collaborate for the success of the conference.
