Egypt’s Big Ramy wins Mr Olympic 2021 for second year in a row

Egypt’s bodybuilder Mamdouh Elssbayie aka “Big Ramy” won Mr. Olympia 2021 show title for the second year in row to become the first Egyptian and African athlete to win this championship twice.

Although Ramy, 37, did not come in peak conditioning during the pre-judging round, he quickly made up for it during the individual posing routine and final showdown on Saturday.

The Mr. Olympia showdown is arguably the biggest attraction of the Olympia weekend. Since Mr. Olympia is the biggest and most prestigious bodybuilding show, the athlete who wins it is considered one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.

Although 19 athletes went head to head for the Mr. Olympia throne, Big Ramy, Brandon Curry, Hunter Labrada, and Haddi Choopan were being considered the front runners for the 2021 Mr. Olympia title.

Sisi lauds distinguished products of ‘Our Heritage’ exhibition

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hailed on Saturday the distinguished products of Torathna (Our Heritage) exhibition of handicrafts and heritage arts and products at the Egypt Center for International Exhibitions.

The president also ordered to provide all facilities and support to “Our Heritage” exhibitors.

As many as 1,500 local exhibitors are participating in this year’s edition. The exhibition also includes pavilions to display products from the UAE, Jordan and Sudan.

Sisi also inspected the pavilions of the UAE, Jordan and Sudan at the exhibition while handing out prizes to the best three handicraft projects on the sidelines of the fair.

A woman from Fayyoum Governorate gained the first prize, worth EGP 50,000, while another one, from Sohag Governorate, won the second prize, worth EGP 30,000?

A man from Gharbiya Governorate got the third prize.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi approved a demand by a female exhibitor at Torathna (Our Heritage) exhibition of handicrafts and heritage arts and products to provide support for her project.

The president asserted the state’s keenness on overcoming all challenges facing projects of female handicrafts workers.

The state is keen on enhancing handicraft projects and will provide all facilities to ensure the success of these projects, the president noted.

The president also urged the female exhibitor to choose 10 youths who are studying in a technical school and provide them with training required to enable them to work with her.

He added that the state will bear the costs of the first phase of her project, noting that the Education Ministry will contribute to supporting the project.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi also inspected the Jordanian pavilion where he listened to a Jordanian exhibitor who greeted him on the occasion of the anniversary of the October War Victory.

The exhibitor noted that hosting the Jordanian pavilion reflects the deep-rooted relations between the two Arab countries.

He also underlined that the Jordanian private sector is keen on boosting relations with the Egyptian side.

Earlier in the day, the president opened the third edition of the exhibition, which sees the participation of 1,500 local exhibitors.

The exhibition is organized by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency and displays traditional art products and handicrafts from different Egyptian governorates. It runs until October 15.

The exhibition, which is being held for the third year, targets providing all means of support for heritage industries and the handicrafts sector, to expand the promotion of ancient Egyptian arts and to make their products available at commercial prices through the exhibition.

Conf. on expat remittances kicks off in Cairo

A conference on the role of remittances in boosting investment kicked off here Sunday under the auspices of Emigration Minister Nabila Makram.

The two-day event is organized in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and is attended by Planning Minister Dr Hala el Saeid.

The conference aims at probing means of enhancing the contribution of Egyptian expats to national development plans through remittances, sharing expertise, reinforcing cultural heritage, charity, along with trade and investments.

A dialogue should also be held to draft expert recommendations in order to allocate the remittances of expats for social and economic development in Egypt.

A forum is planned for the first day, with participants discussing expats’ contribution to sustainable development.

Three workshops are scheduled for the second day and will focus on supporting post-Covid development efforts, investment opportunities in Egypt, and the role of government institutions in encouraging investment.

PM inspects newly-launched Fustat Gardens project

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Saturday paid a tour of the Old Cairo district to inspect the newly-launched Fustat Gardens project.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued directives to open the project as soon as possible, Madbouli said.

The Fustat Gardens project is based on creating a public garden in the center of Old Cairo’s archaeological and historical sites and monuments, he added.

The gigantic project would work to revive the first Islamic capital in Africa by preserving the Islamic architecture there and turning Fustat into an open museum to visitors from all over the world, the prime minister said.

During the tour, Madbouli also undertook an inspection tour of the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque Square development site.

He said the Egyptian Government is determined to speeding up the implementation of the project, given its added value on the efforts to develop the Old Cairo region.

Covering an area of 500 feddans in the heart of Historic Cairo, the Fustat Gardens national project is considered the largest of its kind in the Middle East.

Entitled “A View of Egypt’s Eternal History”, the Fustat Hills Park aims to revive the Egyptian heritage through various Pharaonic, Islamic and modern eras, along with launching cultural and commercial activities, hotel services and open theaters, in addition to an area of ancient monuments and excavations and a large plateau that allows unique visual contact with the Pyramids of Giza, Salah El-Din Citadel and Cairo minarets.

Egypt has lowest gasoline prices in region – Ministry spox

Spokesman for the Ministry of Petroleum Hamdy Abdel Aziz said Egypt has the lowest prices of gasoline in the region, noting that the current prices cover the costs only.

Speaking to Sada Al Balad TV channel, he reiterated on Saturday that attention has been paid to social conditions before imposing the new 25-piaster rise of gasoline prices to avoid any inflation or price rises.

Abdel Aziz explained that diesel prices have not been increased because any price rises can affect public transport fares and the costs of goods transportation.

The Ministry of Petroleum on Friday set the price of 92 octane gasoline at EGP 8.25 per liter and 95 octane gasoline at EGP 9.25 per liter.

As per the decision, the new price of 80 octane gasoline is set at EGP 7 EGP per liter.

The new prices have come into effect as of Friday morning.

Madbouli reviews efforts to rehabilitate civil aviation sector

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has stressed the importance of continuing measures of restructuring the civil aviation sector to achieve its goals, as this sector is one the pillars of the country’s national economy.

During a meeting on Sunday with Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar Enaba, he said the state had devised future plans and studies to boost the performance of this sector as part of the country’s administrative reform efforts.

For his part, minister Enaba reviewed the latest developments in the process of restructuring the civil aviation sector and improving its performance to achieve its goals.

He added that his ministry trained the civil aviation workers and rehabilitated them to improve services offered to citizens.

Irrigation Ministry implements several important projects to protect governorates from torrential rain

Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati asserted that his ministry implements several important projects to protect several governorates from torrential rain.

In a statement on Sunday, Abdel Aati said that works are underway to protect Sinai from torrential rain and floods including the protection activities in el Tor, Taba and Ras Sedr.

He said that 10 ground reservoirs are being established in central Sinai on two stages.

Abdel Aati said that infrastructure protection activities were completed in Assiut, Aswan and Luxor.

Presidential decree appoints diplomat Wael Abu Bakr as ambassador plenipotentiary to Portugal

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday issued presidential decree No.436 of year 2021 appointing Ambassador Wael Abu Bakr Al Naggar as ambassador plenipotentiary to Portugal as of December 1, 2021.

The current ambassador plenipotentiary to Portugal Ambassador Adel El Alfy will be appointed at the Foreign Ministry headquarters as of November 1.

The decree was published in the official Gazette out on Sunday.

20 container, cargo ships handled at Damietta Port

Twenty container and cargo ships were handled at Damietta Port in the past 24 hours.

In a statement Sunday, the Damietta Port Authority (DPA) said the total trade volume of exported goods handled at the port reached 7,106 tons.

The total trade volume of imported goods handled at the port stood at 43,361 tons, the statement said.

Wheat reserves in private sector warehouses reached around 129,360 tons.

Above-average temperatures, clear skies in general

Damascus, Temperatures will be from 3 to 5 degrees above average as the country is affected by a superficial low pressure accompanied by a high pressure in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

The skies will be partly cloudy in general with some scattered clouds, while the winds will be westerly to northwesterly with a low to moderate speed, and it will be easterly to northeasterly with a low speed in the eastern and al-Badia regions, and the sea waves will be low in amplitude.

The expected temperatures in some major Syrian cities will be as follow: Damascus 31/18, Daraa 33/16, Homs 32/13, Lattakia 31/17, Aleppo 32/16 and Deir Ezzor 34/20.

Presidential decree approving grant from ADB, ADF to deliver potable water, drainage to rural areas

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued presidential decree no. 184 of 2021 approving a grant between Egypt and the African Development Bank (ADB) and African Development Fund (ADF) for an initiative to deliver potable water and drainage to rural areas.

This comes as part of an integral sanitation program in the rural areas in the Upper Egyptian city of Luxor with one million euros worth inked on March 3 in 2021.

The decree was published in official gazette.

Army units begin combing some villages in southeast of Daraa city

Daraa, Syrian Arab Army units carried out redeployment operation on Sunday in the villages of Nassib, Umm al-Mayathen and al-Tayba, located to the southeast of the city of Daraa, after completing the process of settling the status of the wanted and military deserters, in implementation of the agreement proposed by the State.

SANA’s reporter in Daraa said that army units started combing and searching operations on the public roadsides leading to the villages of Nassib, Umm al-Mayathen and al-Tayba, and their entrances and vicinities.

The army units also worked on removing remnants of the explosives, in order to preserve the lives of civilians and pave the way for the return of state institutions to the area .

Over the last weeks, army units reinforced their positions in many cities, towns and villages in Daraa northwestern countryside, in al-Yarmouk Basin area and the northern countryside, hours after these areas joined the settlement agreement proposed by the State last August .
