Social Development Ministry launches first Creativity and Excellence Award for Persons with Disabilities


The Ministry of Social Development has announced the launch of the first edition of the Creativity and Excellence Award for Persons with Disabilities, in cooperation with the Executive Office of the Council of Labour and Social Affairs Ministers of the GCC countries. The award aims to recognise outstanding achievements by persons with disabilities and encourage efforts to further empower them, while promoting societal awareness and greater inclusion.

The award will be held every two years, with the winners announced during the Gulf Theatre Festival for People with Disabilities. Members of the Executive Office, representing every GCC state, will select winners based on specific criteria.

IOM Secretary-General receives Bahrain’s Permanent Representative


Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), met with Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, at the organisation’s headquarters.

The Permanent Representative highlighted the ongoing cooperation between Bahrain and the IOM in developing strategies, programmes, and initiatives focused on training, capacity building, and awareness campaigns. These efforts aim to enhance the protection of migrant workers and support global efforts to combat human trafficking, within the framework of Bahrain’s strategic partnership with various UN agencies.

Amy Pope commended Bahrain’s efforts in combating human trafficking and in protecting and supporting migrant workers through a range of services and initiatives. She expressed her hopes for further cooperation with Bahrain in these areas.

Foreign Minister highlights Bahrain-US strategic agreement’s impact


Manama, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani emphasised the positive outcomes of the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement between Bahrain and the United States, one year after its signing. He highlighted its role in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, fostered under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and US President Joe Biden.

Dr. Al Zayani noted the agreement’s strategic benefits, particularly in defence and security cooperation. He commended the efforts of His Highness Lieutenant-General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor and Royal Guard Commander, in overseeing its implementation. The agreement has also enhanced economic cooperation, trade, technology, and cybersecurity, with a focus on digital infrastructure and the “Cloud Computing First” policy.

Bahrain ranked among top globally in 2024 Cybersecurity Index


Bahrain has been ranked in the highest global category in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialised UN agency. The index assesses the cybersecurity capabilities of 194 countries.

Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre, credited the achievement to the support from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Lieutenant General His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor, Secretary General of the Supreme Defense Council, Royal Guard Commander, in enhancing Bahrain’s digital infrastructure.

Shaikh Salman added that Bahrain’s ranking reflects its strong data protection measures, network security, and alignment with the national cybersecurity strategy. The GCI evaluates countries across five areas: legal measures, technical
measures, organisational measures, capacity development, and cooperation. Bahrain achieved full marks in four of these categories.
