Kuwait police arrest wanted man after gunfight

A man with a criminal record was arrested on Thursday after he opened fire at policemen, injuring one of them in Salmiya neighborhood.

The wanted man fled the scene but the security services were able to track him down and seize the weapon used in the attack, the Ministry of Interior said a press statement.

It described the arrestee as an unemployed man who has a record of a host of crimes including theft, assaults against civil servants and robbery at gun point and is a fugitive from a jail sentence.

The Ministry added that during the investigations, the man pleaded guilty of the attack.

An attempted murder felony case was registered against him at Salmiya Police Station and he was referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary measures against him, the Ministry said.

It assured that that the injured policeman is in a stable condition, noting that he was transferred to a nearby hospital where he received treatment and was discharged later.

Washington We continue to work to reach an agreement on Gaza

The US National Security Council’s Strategic Policy Coordinator John Kirby said: We are continuing our talks with Qatar, Egypt and Israel in order to reach an agreement text that can be approved by all parties.

“We have been working throughout this week to find a way forward on an agreement,” he added.

Berri discusses Gaza, presidential stalemate with Egyptian Ambassador


House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Friday welcomed at his Ain Al-Tineh residence Director General of Lebanon’s General Security, Elias Baisari, with whom he discussed general and security-related issues.

Berri also met with Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, with whom he discussed political developments in Lebanon and the region, particularly the ongoing Gaza conflict.

Moussa emphasized that the situation in Gaza significantly impacts Lebanon, especially the South.

The pair also discussed Lebanon’s presidential file, with Moussa noting Berri’s efforts to break the deadlock.

For his part, Berri stressed the importance of separating Gaza developments from the presidential process to facilitate progress.

Moussa further mentioned the upcoming meetings of the Quintet (International Group for Lebanon), reiterating the group’s commitment to dialogue with Lebanese parties to resolve the impasse.

Additionally, Moussa expressed hope that de-escalation in Gaza could positively influence stability in Lebanon
‘s south.

GAIN Summit Honours Culture Ministry with AI Ethics Medal

The Ministry of Culture was presented with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics Medal for 2024 in recognition of its innovative work in this area on the sidelines of the 3rd Global AI Summit 2024 (GAIN Summit), held in Riyadh by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).

Because of its dedication to applying ethical standards to the use of AI technology, the Ministry of Culture was one of the first institutions to embrace the AI ethics project in September 2022, thus winning this award.

The AI ethics initiative is a part of the ongoing government efforts to back the kingdom’s AI national strategy. Its goals include bolstering economic growth, establishing clear guidelines for AI ethics, and supporting and promoting research and innovation in the field.
