Hong Kong-Spain: Unlocking Boundless Opportunities, Partnering for Success

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 25 September 2024 – Hong Kong’s vibrant economy and strategic location offer boundless opportunities for European firms. Starting in Spain, a delegation led by Hong Kong’s Financial Secretary Paul Chan, is visiting Madrid (September 22-25, 2024) and London (September 25-28, 2024) to promote Hong Kong’s advantages, in particular the city’s burgeoning innovation and technology ecosystem.

In a keynote speech to Spanish business, financial, I&T leaders during a business luncheon, Mr Chan pointed out that with the singular advantages under the “one country, two systems” principle, Hong Kong was solidifying its role as a “super-connector” linking Mainland China to the rest of the world. Hong Kong’s vibrant economy and strategic location continue to make it a leading business centre, fostering innovation and connecting international markets.

“We are the only jurisdiction in China practising the common law system, our judiciary exercising its powers independently. Information, capital, goods and people flow freely in and out of our city. Our taxes are low and simple, with a currency pegged to the US dollar. Our regulatory systems and professional services align with the best international standards,” Mr Chan said.

Highlighting Hong Kong’s full spectrum of fund-raising and financial services, Mr Chan also pointed out that Hong Kong was a leader in green finance in Asia with its green standards compatible with those of the European Union. At the same time, Hong Kong’s burgeoning I&T ecosystem can collaborate with Spain’s tech ecosystem across key sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, fintech and new energy and new materials.

Report: The terrifying scenario for Israel’s economy

Bethlehem-Ma’an-The British magazine “The Economist” said that the nightmare scenario for the Israeli economy is a comprehensive war with Hezbollah, stressing that economic policy makers are more concerned about the beginning of the conflict.

The magazine reported that the Israeli economy should have been on the road to recovery, after all, many of the 300,000 workers who left their jobs to fight returned to offices, factories and farms. Instead, the difficult situation has become more acute than ever.

‘The nightmare scenario for Israel is a conflict that could reach Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the country’s commercial hubs. But even a less intense war in which fighting is limited to the north of the country could be enough to upend its economy,’ she said, adding that ‘a government that pursues a policy of free spending is not helping matters.’

‘The deficit is now expected to reach 8.1% of GDP this year, nearly three times what was expected before the war,’ she said, noting that ‘investors are uncertain about Israel’s ability to recover. The shekel is volatile, Israeli banks are experiencing capital flight, and the three largest banks are reporting a significant increase in the number of customers asking to transfer their savings to other countries or to link them to the dollar.’

‘Although inflation remains above target, the central bank chose to hold its previous policy rate at its August policy meeting, fearing it would derail the recovery,’ she added. ‘Then there is the nightmare scenario, where a few investors are preparing for a war that could engulf all of Israel, including Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, although Hezbollah may be able to launch such an attack.’

‘Under such a scenario, economic growth will be severely damaged, perhaps more severely than it was after October 7. Military expenditures will rise, and investor flight will likely topple the banks and push the shekel lower, forcing the Bank of Israel to intervene and spend its reserves. Whatever happens, Israeli economists are resigned to things getting worse,’ she stressed.

General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Uses Advanced Techniques to Handle Zamzam Water

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques is using advanced methods to manage the storage, purification, and distribution of Zamzam water from the sacred well in Makkah.

The process involves utilizing tanks constructed with reinforced concrete, with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, to store the water, which then undergoes purification at a specialized plant where it is meticulously filtered and treated to achieve a high level of purity and sterilization using a filtration system. Subsequently, the purified water is conveyed to two Zamzam water tanks, capable of holding 10,000 cubic meters, and to the King Abdulaziz Sabil (public drinking fountain) for distribution.

Zamzam water from the tanks is distributed to the Grand Mosque, while water from King Abdulaziz Sabil is directed to the Prophet’s Mosque. After undergoing additional purification with ultraviolet light, the water is bottled into 5-liter containers at the production plant. It is then transported through stainless
steel pipes to cooling stations located around the Grand Mosque.

At every stage of the process, Zamzam water undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it meets the highest standards of purity. Samples are taken and analyzed to verify that the water is free from contaminants. The testing process involves physical examination: visual inspection to ensure the sample is free from visible impurities; chemical analysis: using specialized equipment, all compounds in the water are analyzed and compared to set standards and specifications; bacteriological analysis: the water is tested using specific media to cultivate and identify bacteria and microbes; and advanced laboratory techniques: highly specialized equipment is used for comprehensive water testing, including chlorine analyzers for immediate chlorine testing, pH meters for measuring acidity and alkalinity, and instruments for analyzing all water compounds and elements.

The Grand Mosque is supplied with over 1.25 million liters of Zamzam water daily from the King
Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Project for Zamzam Water Distribution. To meet the high demand, the authority has implemented a large-scale distribution system involving over 30,000 containers, 300 mobile units, and 80 smart carts, all operated by a workforce of some 1,030 individuals.
