DAMASCUS, At least 30 people were killed and dozens others injured overnight by US-led air strikes on Syria’s eastern province of Deir al-Zour, Xinhua news agency reported, citing state news agency SANA Friday.

The air strikes targeted residential areas in the towns of Baghour Foqani and Souseh on the eastern bank of the Euphrates river near Al-Bukamal city in eastern Deir al-Zour.

The death toll may rise since many of the injured are in critical condition.

Dozens of homes were destroyed, said SANA, accusing the US-led coalition of targeting local residents for refusing the entry of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The towns are located inside a small pocket in eastern Deir al-Zour controlled by Daesh.

The Syrian government has repeatedly accused the US of targeting civilians in Syria, while urging the UN to put an end to the coalition’s military operations in Syria.

The US coalition has been operating in Syria since 2014, supporting Kurdish-led groups in northern Syria in the fight against Daesh.

The Syrian government contended the real goal of the coalition is to prolong the crisis in Syria by using Daesh as a pretext to further destabilise the country.
