80 RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKES HIT ISIS HIDEOUTS IN CENTRAL SYRIA WITHIN 72 HOURS: MONITORING GROUP

Between February 6 and 8, more than 80 Russian airstrikes hit hideouts of ISIS cells in Syria’s central region, according to the London-bases Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The latest wave of airstrikes targeted hideouts located in the outskirts of the town of al-Resafa in the southern Raqqa countryside.

The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) intensified their combat operations against ISIS cells in central Syria with the beginning of February. Since then, Russian warplanes have carried out more than 190 airstrikes on the region, per the SOHR.

The intense Russian operations coupled with bad weather conditions have very much forced ISIS cells to temporary halt their insurgency in the central Syria. The terrorist group’s last attack, which targeted an oil shipment en-route to government-held areas in the southern countryside of Raqqa, was on February 3.

ISIS insurgency in central Syria is not over yet. However, there is doubt that the situation in the region is today more stable than a year ago.
