UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, sent separate invitations to the Syrian opposition and the Assad government, to attend the 9th round of Geneva talks, held under the auspices of the United Nations, on Jan 25-26, however, due to logistics’ reasons, the meetings will take place, at the UN office, in Vienna, Austria.

In a statement, announced here today, Di Mistura expressed anticipation that, concerned delegations will take place in the meetings, and that they will be ready to engage, in the talks, with special concentration on the constitutional basket, with an agenda for the full implementation of the UN Security Council no.: 2254 of 2015, taking into consideration standards and notes, he submitted to the Security Council, on Dec 19, 2017.

Di Mistura reiterated, reaffirming UN overture, to assess any political initiative taken by the world actors, based on their potential, to back up and to contribute to the Geneva peace process, sponsored by the UN, in order to guarantee full implementation of Resolution no. 2254.
