The Arab League’s (AL) Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, warned Tuesday, that, the Syrian government attacks on the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta could cause a humanitarian crisis in the region.

“The attacks don’t differentiate between the military personnel and the civilians,” Aboul-Gheit, said, in a statement.

The Syrian government forces use weapons that don’t suit the nature of the highly-populated areas, he noted, demanding to “stop attacks immediately for humanitarian reasons.

There is no alternative but the political solution, to maintaining the independence of the country, and the unity of its territories, the AL chief pointed out.

Dozens of people were killed or wounded, in government shelling on several areas in Eastern Ghouta, on Monday, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
