AL-HASAKAH PRISON BATTLE: 20 ISIS TERRORISTS SURRENDERED, OTHERS CONTINUE TO RESIST (VIDEOS)

As of January 29, clashes continue in the northeastern Syrian city of al-Hasakah where the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is still trying to neutralize the remnants of ISIS terrorists who occupied Geweran prison and nearby areas nine days ago.

SDF fighters eliminated five of the terrorists still holding up inside the prison. Around 20 others surrendered along with their leader, who was identified as “Abu Ubayda”.

A joint force of the SDF and the US-led coalition also raided an apartment building located near the prison, where a group of five terrorists were holding a hostage. During the raid, one of the terrorists was shot and killed while two others blew themselves up. The fate of the hostage and the remaining two terrorists remain unknown.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the battle of Geweran prison has so far claimed the lives of 189 terrorists of ISIS, seven civilians and 74 personnel of the SDF and its security forces.

On January 26, the SDF announced that its fighters had regained control of Geweran and nearby areas. However, the announcement turned out to be a mere propaganda stunt.

More than 1,600 of around 4,000 terrorists, who were detained at Geweran prison, have been recaptured by the SDF since the January 20 attack. The fate of rest remains unclear. According to recent reports, around 200 terrorists fled the prison under a secret deal with the SDF.
