Al-Jaafari: any political track should include supporting Syria in its war against terrorism
New York, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said on Thursday that the silence of Security council on the Israeli occupation of Syrian Golan has encouraged Washington to try to disavow obligations of UN resolution No.497 which considered the occupation procedures as null and void.
Israel continues the occupation of Arab territories, expands settlements and perpetrates the aggressions on Syria to raise the morale of the terrorist organizations, al-Jaafari said at a UN security council session on the situation in Syria.
He added that Israel has deliberately raised the level of escalation through setting up a new settlement in the occupied Syrian Golan under the name of US President who had violated UN resolutions through his illegitimate proclamation regarding Golan.
Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, NickolayMladenov, is going ahead in overstepping the nature and limits of his authority and he ignores talking about the Israeli occupation violations in Golan, al-Jaafari said.
The Syrian representative to the UN added that after the dream of Turkish regime president Erdogan had vanished to join the European Union, he went towards his neighbors to the East and South in an attempt to revive the illusions of the Ottoman Sultanate and dead colonial greed.
Erdogan was involved in a terrorist plot that aims to destroy Syria and he has facilitated the flow of thousands of foreign terrorists into the country, then he launched aggression and occupied parts of Syria, al-Jaafari said.
He went on to say that all countries should be adhered to the rules of UN convention that stipulate rejection of threat to use force against the safety of territories or the political independence of any state.
Syria renews its willingness to cooperate with the UN Special envoy to Syria to make his mission a success represented in facilitating a Syrian-Syrian dialogue led by Syria to push the political track forwards, al-Jaafari affirmed.
He said that any political track which doesn’t include support to Syria in its war against terrorism and end the foreign illegitimate presence on its territory as well as lifting the economic coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people remains an unrealistic solution which has no horizon.
In a session before the UN General Assembly on combating terrorism, al-Jaafari affirmed that Syria rejects the unprofessional method of removal which some countries repeat it when calling for the convention of such a session, a step that leads to misusing the notion of responsibility for protection and politicizing it.
The UN has failed to activate any alarm system to protect the Syrians and Iraqis from terrorism of Daesh, al-Qaeda, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations, al-Jaafari said.
He added that there are governments that exploit the UN security Council to perpetrate special military and political practices in addition to selfishness which contradict the council’s principles and convention and pose threat to the international peace and security.
Al-Jaafari underlined that Syria is committed to resorting to the convention and rejects politicizing or distorting the millennium declaration of 2005.
