Amir of Qatar: Future of Gulf-European Cooperation is Promising

The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed that the EU-GCC Summit reflects a mutual interest in enhancing cooperation and dialogue by coordinating efforts on regional and international issues, stimulating trade cooperation and investments, and exchanging expertise across various fields.

In his address today during the EU-GCC Summit held in Brussels, the amir said, “We are certain that the future of Gulf-European cooperation is promising. We all support strengthening and deepening it through existing mechanisms and establishing new ones if necessary, in line with the optimistic prospects for collaboration between Gulf and European countries.”

He also expressed appreciation for the significant role played by the European Union in maintaining global security and peace, as well as its effective contributions toward achieving peaceful solutions to ongoing international crises. He acknowledged the EU’s efforts to advance the
global economy and encourage development in various countries. He commended the positions taken by European nations regarding the crimes committed by Israel against civilians and their support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. He expressed hope for an enhanced European role in solidifying international consensus on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.

He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, urging an end to settler provocations in the occupied West Bank. He stressed Qatar’s ongoing mediation efforts alongside the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States to achieve a ceasefire.

Sheikh Tamim expressed hope that the summit would mark a pivotal moment in the historical relations between the Gulf and European nations, ultimately enhancing security, political stability, and economic prosperity for both sides.
