Damascus – Marking the holy festive season, the Patriarchate of Antioch and the rest of the East of the Syriac Orthodox Church opened Sunday its Christmas bazaar at St. Georges Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate in Bab Touma district in the capital Damascus.

The bazaar was inaugurated by Patriarch of Antioch and the rest of the East, Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church Ignatius Aphrem II. “Christmas comes this year in conjunction with Damascus’s recovery from terrorism, and these celebrations are a message of love and peace to the world,” he said.

“Christmas this year is characterized by a greater sense of joy, reflected in the manifestations of birth and adornment, and the most important feeling is security and safety,” he added.

For his part, the Patriarchal Vicar in Damascus, Archbishop Timothy Matta, said that “these charity bazaars held to meet the needs of Syrian families during the holiday season,” adding that “the goal is to create income for charity funds, in addition to having space for people to showcase products of individual initiatives.”
