Arab League Condemns Israeli Occupation’s Aggression and Warns of Regional Instability.

Cairo: Arab League condemned the genocide crimes committed by Israeli occupation against Palestinian people, as well as the repeated aggression on Syrian and Lebanese territories and attempts to escalate that in the region, including Iraq, warning against the outbreak of a regional war that threatens security and stability in the region as a whole.

According to Syrian Arab News Agency, during its extraordinary session on ‘mobilizing international support to confront Israeli measures,’ at the level of permanent delegates, the League’s states called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and for the General Assembly to begin reviewing the freeze on Israel’s participation in UN meetings in accordance with the provisions of the charter.

The resolution issued by the League of Arab States meeting included several key points. Firstly, it condemned the attempts of Israel, the occupying power, to expand its aggressive acts in the region, including Iraq, as h
ighlighted in a letter from the Israeli Foreign Minister to the Security Council President on November 18, 2024. Additionally, the League condemned Israeli crimes of aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians, as well as aggression on Lebanese and Syrian territories.

The League warned of the danger posed by comprehensive Israeli escalation, which could lead to a regional war threatening the region’s security and stability. The resolution also criticized the Israeli occupation government’s actions toward the United Nations, including the escalation of attacks against the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the declaration of the UN Secretary-General as persona non grata.

Furthermore, the resolution condemned ongoing Israeli attacks targeting residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities in Syria and the Israeli occupation authorities’ digging of trenches and erecting earthen berms along the ceasefire line, as documented in UNDOF reports. It warned of the ser
iousness of these acts that violate Security Council resolutions.

The League also condemned the US use of veto power for the fourth time against a resolution for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza Strip. It called on the UN Secretary-General and Security Council President to fulfill their international mandate to maintain peace and security and to end Israeli aggression in Gaza Strip, West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria.

Additionally, the resolution welcomed the International Criminal Court’s decision on November 21, 2024, to issue arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister and former army minister. It also welcomed Iraq’s announcement that its armed forces and security agencies would prevent any military activity outside state control.

The League called on Algeria, a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to follow up on Iraq’s complaint against Israel. It assigned missions to the League’s offices and requested Arab ambassadors to mobilize international support to counter
Israel’s aggressive actions.

The resolution also urged the Council of Arab Ambassadors in New York to continue efforts for an emergency Security Council session and to push for a resolution obliging Israel to cease its aggressive practices immediately. Furthermore, it called on the Arab League’s Secretary-General to send a letter to the Security Council’s President and the UN Secretary-General, emphasizing the League’s support for Iraq.

Finally, the resolution requested the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States to follow up on its implementation and report to the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in its next session. Syria’s permanent representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Hussam al-Din Ala, affirmed support for brotherly Iraq in a statement.
