Arab ministers call for urgent help to Palestinian families

The Arab Ministers of Finance and Economy called on Thursday to offer urgent assistance to the families impacted by Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and to implement the emergency response plan submitted by Palestine to address the repercussions of the occupation.

The ministers commended the Arab popular positions made in support of the Palestine at the end of the 114th Economic and Social Council session, and condemned the crime of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, calling on all Arab states to continue efforts to stop the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip.

They called for confronting the terroristic armed Israeli settlers, their crimes of destroying and harassing Palestinians and their properties, the non-compensation of resulting damages to Palestinians, the piracy of their money, and the heavy loss of Palestinian life and economy, resulting in high unemployment and poverty.

They stressed the need to implement the emergency response plan, calling on s
tates, organizations, and the relevant national and international funds to contribute to the financing and implementation of the plan in coordination with Palestine. The ministers asked the General Secretariat of the Arab League to coordinate with Arab countries, organizations, institutions, and the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development to provide relief to tons of thousands of orphaned Palestinian children, and call for greater attention on the installation of prosthetics to amputees. They appealed for the relief of Palestinian workers who have been persecuted and prevented from working by the Israeli Occupation since the beginning of the aggression on the Strip, by coordinating with the Palestinian Ministry of Labor and the General Secretariat of the Social Affairs Sector.

They called on League member states to support Palestinian students by increasing scholarships provided by them and higher education institutions by 5,000 scholarships to students from the Gaza Strip, especially after losing any sou
rce of funding or living, and work to accommodate students for free to study some courses, until the end of the aggression and their return to their universities.

They stressed the need for Arab member states to support Palestinian exports through bilateral agreements with the Palestinian Ministries of National Economy and Industry to develop programs that support channeling Palestinian exports to Arab markets, and to allocate free spaces for Palestinian participation in Arab exhibitions. They called on Arab member states to give preferential prices for raw materials and ready-made goods to Palestinian importers through incentive measures that urge their private sector, and to invest in Palestine and benefit from the incentives of the Palestinian investment law.

They urged Arab member states to cooperate with the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy through bilateral arrangements and agreements to support small businesses in the Gaza Strip and West Bank as a result of Israeli aggression since 7 October,
based on identifying needs, or wage support to revive them in the Palestinian labor market.

They called to implement resolutions with a view to support the Palestinian economy and adopt a life-saving project for the poor groups in Gaza, including groups most afflicted by the brutal Israeli aggression, including the elderly and persons with disabilities and female-headed families.

They approved the draft economic and social file of the Arab League council at the summit level at its 34th regular session for 2025 in Iraq in its preliminary form.

The topics proposed in the file include the report of the Secretary General of the Arab League on joint Arab economic and social development action, as well as topics related to the progress made in implementing the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and the Arab Customs Union. The preliminary economic and social file for the upcoming summit includes a declaration of principles on the future of human resources in light of the technological revolution and the updated
Arab strategy for workforce development and employment.

The file also includes topics proposed by member states, ministers, and Arab organizations in accordance with the criteria for presenting economic and social topics at the summit.

The Economic and Social Council called on member states and Arab organizations to provide the General Secretariat with economic and social development issues they wish to include in the economic and social file of the 34th regular session of the council at the summit level. Kuwait participated in the 114th session with a delegation headed by the Acting Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Finance for Economic Affairs, Talal Al-Nemesh, and representative of the Ministry of Finance and members of the Permanent Delegation of Kuwait to the Arab League.
