Following his meeting with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, John X, MP Gebran Bassil appealed to everyone who can help in wake of the tragic earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey, calling on countries to lift the siege humanely so that people can get out of the crisis.

“God willing, the Syrian tragedy will open one of the closed doors, and allow for a glimmer of hope,” he said, asserting that “we are obligated to stand by them.”

Àsked about the meeting held in Bkirki by the heads of the Christian sects, he considered that the presidential election is a Christian and patriotic entitlement, and not just Maronite, adding, “We are bound by agreement and we do not have the luxury of time.”
