BASSIL DURING A MEETING WITH FPM’S YOUTH SECTOR: IF HEZBOLLAH RETURNS TO PARTNERSHIP, WE WILL AS WELL

Free Patriotic Movement Chief, MP Gebran Bassil, said today that if Hezbollah were to return to partnership, FPM would return as well.

“Let no one think that we have regrets, and at any time the party [Hezbollah] returns to the understanding, we will return as well…The understanding gave us 15 years of stability in the country, and at a time when there was an intention to isolate the party, the understanding emerged, so we formed a partnership that led to the establishment of stability,” Bassil explained.

He added: “We lost popularity as a result of the understanding because marketing Hezbollah in the Lebanese street is difficult, especially among the youth. Despite this, we sacrificed our popularity in exchange for stability, but when we arrived at a place where the party no longer cooperated with us in partnership, we moved away. From here we say: If you return, we will return, that is, if Hezbollah returns, we will return to partnership.”

His words came during a meeting organized with the FPM’s youth
sector members entitled, “From Generation to Generation’, which was attended by senior FPM officials, cabinet ministers, and members of parliament.

Recalling FPM’s timeline of sacrifices, struggle, and achievements, Bassil addressed the young members saying: ‘We rely on you to assume responsibilities, and one of our plans is to reduce the joining age of the Movement.’
