Former minister Gebran Bassil said Monday that he had chosen “national unity as a parameter to take foreign policy positions,” stressing he sought an “independent” policy based on Lebanon’s best interest as well as on the international law.

Speaking during a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bassil highlighted the necessity of a balanced position that goes in line with Lebanon’s geographical location.

He also hoped that his successor Nassif Hitti and the new government would succeed in devising a national plan to repatriate the displaced Syrians.
