Berri concerned over government formation delay: Hajj Hassan

House Speaker Nabih Berri is concerned over the delay in the formation of the new government, and he may even summon the Parliament to discuss the reasons of the process’s obstruction, Caretaker Minister of Industry, Hussein Hajj Hassan, said on Monday.

“Let’s wait for what will happen this week and the next one; we have high hopes that the government will be formed in the nearest time possible,” he added.

Hassan, alongside lawmakers from the Baalbeck-Hermel parliamentary bloc, visited Berri at his Ain-el-Tineh residence today, for talk over the current general situation on the local scene, especially in the Bekaa region.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting on the bloc’s behalf, Hajj Hassan indicated that talks also focused on the establishment of a development council special to Baalbeck and Akkar.

“The Speaker assured that this item will be on the agenda of the next House session,” he said.

“We also dwelt on Baalbeck’s security dossier,” he added.

“We call the military and security forces, as well as officials, to carry on their efforts to control the security situation in the Baalbeck-Hermel region in a permanent way,” he stressed,

“We are beside and behind the army,” he underlined.

Separately, Berri met with former minister Ghazi Aridi.

He had earlier welcomed the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sigrid Kaag, with whom he discussed the Lebanese-Dutch bilateral relations, in addition to most recent developments.

Berri also met with Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ahmad Chozin Chumaidy.

Separately, Berri received response letters from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Jordanian King Abdullah II, and Sultan Qaboos of Oman.
