BLINKEN TO ARRIVE IN TURKEY TODAY TO INSPECT RESCUE OPERATIONS

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will arrive in Turkey today, Sunday, for a two-day official visit, according to “Russia Today” news agency.

Earlier, the US State Department said that Blinken would visit Turkey to inspect the ongoing US efforts to assist the Turkish government in facing the two devastating earthquakes.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said, in a statement, that Blinken will visit Incirlik Air Base near the city of Adana in southern Turkey today.to inspect direct US efforts to assist the Turkish authorities in responding to the devastation caused by the February 6 earthquake.

He added, “Blinken will then leave for the capital, Ankara, to meet his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and other officials” to discuss the continued American support for Turkey and its people after the devastating earthquakes, in addition to ways to further strengthen the partnership with Turkey,” noting that Blinken “will also thank the government of Turkey for its support for cross-border aid to the affected areas in Syria.”

Washington had announced $85 million in urgent humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria after the earthquakes, in addition to the deployment of disaster response and rescue teams in Turkey immediately after the earthquake.
