BOU HABIB MEETS WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION DELEGATION

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, welcomed on Thursday the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and an accompanying delegation.

Ghebreyesus stressed that “the organization continues to provide support to Lebanon, especially in the face of the outbreak of Covid 19,” discussing the vaccination process, which has reached 30 percent.

“The WHO encourages Lebanon to make more efforts to reach the international goal, which is to vaccinate 40 percent of the population,” he said.

The international delegation also stressed “the readiness to provide support to the new government in all areas that fall within the competence of the organization,” praising Lebanon’s hosting of the displaced Syrians, promising to “communicate with donors and urge the international community to take this hosting into consideration when helping in the process of economic recovery.”

Ghebreyesus finally declared that “the organization’s high expertise is put at Lebanon’s disposal,” underlining readiness to send a team to assist the Ministry of Health, upon its request, in order to develop practical steps, within the framework of a comprehensive vision of Lebanon’s health needs.
