Cabinet approves national action plan to deal with the aftermath of quake

Damascus, SANA-The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous, approved on Saturday a short, medium and long-term national action plan to deal with the repercussions of the earthquake in various sectors, guarantee the needs of those affected and establish the mechanisms for economic and social recovery in the affected areas of the country.

Arnous stressed the need to coordinate with all businessmen, civil societies, unions, federations and the local community to carry out this national plan.

He explained that the State is studying all proposals to compensate those affected, and pointed out that the damage that occurred as a result of the earthquake is very large and affected various sectors and thousands of buildings.

The national plan presented by the ministerial committees (services and infrastructure, human and economic development, resources and energy) included supporting livelihoods and basic services in the affected areas and guaranteeing conditions for affected families.

It also included the evaluation of the current situation of the dams, the rehabilitation of schools, hospitals, water and electricity networks, and the immediate treatment of damage to roads, retaining walls and vital centers in cooperation with international organizations.

The plan supports public construction companies in the execution of rehabilitation projects for damaged infrastructure and in the construction of houses.
