Kuwait wins gold and silver medals in table tennis for mental disabilities


The Altomooh Kuwait sports club won one gold medal and one silver medal in the table tennis competition for people over 21 years old on Friday at the fifth international Championship for people with disabilities, held in Cairo.

A statement to KUNA by the director of the Altomooh Hoda Al-Khalidi, stated, “I sincerely congratulate the champion players and the administrative and technical teams for their support and encouragement.” Al-Khalidi said player Hassan Al-Mutawa had booked his place in the final match after defeating the Port Fouad Al-Busaidi Club player by 2-0. Player Mohsen Al-Mashmoum reached the final after defeating the player of Zamalek Club by 2-0. The two Kuwaiti players will meet in the final match. She pointed out that players Hassan Al-Mutawa, Mohsen Al-Mashmoum, and Mohammed Al-Otaibi are scheduled to compete in the athletics competitions next Saturday in the 100-meter and 200-meter races.

Al-Khalidi stressed her confidence in the players to continue the achievement and raise Kuwait’s num
ber of medals. The fifth international Championship for people with special abilities was launched last Thursday in Al-Shorouk, Cairo.

Two hundred forty-four players representing 20 clubs, including the Kuwaiti Ambition Club, participated in the table tennis and athletics competitions, with three players: Mohsen Al-Mashmoum, Hassan Al-Mutawa, and Mohammed Al-Otaibi. The delegation participating in the tournament is headed by the club’s assistant secretary, Fahd Al-Shali, and includes, in addition to the players, coach Bilal Al-Hammami. (end) asm.ara

Jamie Gittens double secures Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 victory over Club Brugge


Belgium, A Jamie Gittens double gave last season’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund a 3-0 win at Club Brugge in the revamped Champions League on Wednesday, while Paris Saint Germain left it late to edge Girona 1-0.

English substitute Gittens cut inside on 76 minutes and his deflected effort looped into the net after the hosts had looked the better side. He secured the win on 86 before Serhou Guirassy’s penalty, dpa news agency reported.

Al-Qadsia wins against Al-Ahli Bank in 39th Arab Handball Clubs Championship


Kuwait’s Al-Qadsia won on Wednesday against Egypt’s Al-Ahli Bank with a score of (26-24) during the 39th Arab Handball Clubs Championship for League and Cup, which runs from 16 September till 26 September in Kuwait.

The two teams ended the first half with a tied score of (11-11), and in the second half, Al-Qadsia managed to win against its competition in a close match with a score of (26-24).

Al-Qadsia lost its first match against the Qatari Al-Gharafa, while Egyptian Al-Ahli Bank lost its first match against Iraq’s Al-Hashid, then won against Al-Gharafa, then lost against Al-Qadsia today. The third day matches of the championship will be Al-Kuwait (SC) team against Kuwaiti Al-Salmiyah team.

Kuwait’s players set new records at Arab athletic tourney


Kuwait National Team, male and female players, secured new records on Sunday at the final day of 10th Arab athletic junior male and female championships which kicked off in Tayif city, southwest Saudi Arabia.

In the final 200m race, Sayid Fakher finished with a time of 22.25 seconds.

While, Dalal Al-Azmi set a new record in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 40.93 meters, while the Medley relay team secured fifth place. Head of the Kuwaiti athletic delegation Saad Al-Khalifa told KUNA that setting new records by the athletes’ signals a promising future filled with success.

Al-Khalifa praised the players and the national team staff for their unwavering dedication and expressed his pride in securing a gold medal at the start of the tournament.

Kuwait’s national team secured a gold medal overall, with player Abdulrahman Al-Qahtani winning the shot put event with a new personal record of 18.24 meters.

The tournament, featured 18 teams from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar
, Oman, Syria, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Libya, included 241 athletes competing in 20 events.

KFA board members resign against backdrop of incidents of World Cup qualifier


The board members of the Kuwait Football Association tendered resignations en masse on Saturday after the enquiry committee finalized its probe into the incidents that took place during a FIFA World Cup Asian qualifier against Iraq last Tuesday.

Soon after the committee presented its report, the KFA accepted the resignations of its Secretary-General and the Director of Public Relations, and appointed Dr. Saleh Al-Majroub as acting Secretary-General according to a KFA statement.

The KFA asked the newly-appointed Secretary-General to call an emergency general assembly meeting to elect a replacement to the outgoing board as per the provisions of Article 35 of the basic system of the Association, the statement added.

Min. Al-Mutairi lauds Kuwait youth handball team’s qualification to world tourney


Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdurrahman Al-Mutairi lauded on Sunday the national youth handball team’s qualification to the 2025 IHF Men’s U19 Handball World Championship in Slovenia.

The achievement came following the team’s bronze medal win in Jordan’s 10th Asian tournament.

After receiving the team and the accompanying delegation, Minister Al-Mutairi conveyed congratulations from the country’s leadership, which also expressed pride in the team’s recent achievement.

National team player Abdulatif Salmeen — who excelled in the tournament — told KUNA the squad had thoroughly prepared for the tournament a year ahead, commending the level of training camps prior to the event.

The Kuwaiti team came third in the Asian tournament, beating their Saudi rivals by 30-26.

During the group stage, Kuwait unexpectedly lost to Bahrain by 35-33 in the first matchup; however, the team bounced back with two consecutive wins against Qatar 32-28 and Japan 27-23 before heading
to the elimination stage.

Davis Cup: Lebanon beats South Africa 3-1


Lebanon won its match against South Africa 3-1 in the second world group of the Davis Cup tennis tournament, which was held on the first court of the Palm Hills Sports Club in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on a clay court.

Lebanon will play its next match in early 2025 against the country that will be determined by the draw that will be held later.

After Lebanon advanced 2-0 on Saturday, two matches were held today, Sunday.

In the doubles category, South Africans Philip Henning and Alec Beckley defeated Lebanese Benjamin Hassan and Hadi Habib in two sets 7-6, 6-3, and South Africa reduced the score to 1-2.

In the second match on Sunday, in the men’s singles, Benjamin Hassan defeated Philip Henning 6-2, 6-3 to win the match 3-1.

Kuwait SC hammers Al-Nasr 5-1 in STC Premier League

Kuwait SC football squad defeated Al-Nasr SC 5-1 in the second round of Zain (STC) Premier League at Al-Sadaqua Walsalam Stadium of Kazma SC in Adailiya neighborhood on Saturday.

Kuwait SC secured the victory by scoring five goals, with three in the first half and two in the second.

Kuwait SC raised its total to 12 points, securing the top spot in the league, while Al-Nasr SC finished in ninth place.

Davis Cup: Lebanon wins over South Africa 2-0 on first day in Cairo


Lebanon advanced over South Africa (2-0) at the end of the first day of the World Group II of the Davis Cup tennis competition, which is held on the first court of the Palm Hills Sports Club in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on a clay-dirt floor.

Lebanese Benjamin Hassan (ranked 195 in the world) defeated Alek Bekele (South Africa, ranked 641) 6-4, 6-2.

In the second match, Lebanese Hadi Habib, ranked 268, achieved an exciting victory over Philippe Henning (ranked 360) 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

Lebanon now needs one victory out of three possible matches tomorrow, Sunday.

Paris honors Olympic, Paralympic champions amid massive crowd

A ceremony to honor Olympic and Paralympic games’ champions kicked off on Saturday in the French capital for the last time, amid massive crowd at the ‘avenue des Champs-Elysees’.

French President Emmanuel Macron as well as a number of sportspeople, organizers and volunteers of the games hosted by the capital this summer attended the ceremony.

In a pleasant festival, a march launched at the avenue featuring a procession of champions, the organizing committee’s staff, Olympic and Paralympic athletes as well as other, amid about 70,000 crowd.

At the end of the ceremony, Macron is set to grant medals to sportspeople, and athletes of special needs, and the ceremony ends with a concert.

French Interior Ministry said at least 4,000 soldiers of police and gendarmerie were deployed.

Al Riyadi Beirut will fight for 3rd place after beating Petro de Luanda


Petro de Luanda almost came back from down 13 points (67-54) against the reigning champions of the Basketball Champions League Asia, but Al Riyadi Beirut finished on top at 80-75 to fight for the 3rd place in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. They will face the Tasmania JackJumpers tomorrow.

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Manny Harris led the Lebanese team in scoring with 22 points, going close to a double-double with 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Then, Elmedin Kikanovic added 15 points, while Hayk Gyokchyan finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Angolan team and the reigning champions of the Basketball Africa League, Abou Gakou ultimately scored 20 points shooting 4/7 from beyond the arc off the bench. Former Virtus Bologna and AEK forward Yanick Moreira added 16 points and 6 rebounds on 8/11 from the field.
