Civilian killed by a landmine in southern Idlib governorate, November 29, 2022

Amer Jasim al-Mohammad, aged 25, from al-Kanayes village in the eastern suburbs of Idlib governorate, was killed on November 29, 2022, by a landmine whose source we have not been yet able to identify as he was picking olives in an agricultural land near Majdaliya village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate. The village is under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, to disclose the locations of landmines, and to work on properly removing them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, with these mines continuing to pose a serious threat to the lives of residents, especially children, that will last for years.
