Loay al-Jabban, a 31-year-old man from Jal Jebrin village in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo, who lived in al-Khattaf, which is administratively a part of Manbej city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was shot dead on January 13, 2023 by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) internal security personnel who opened fire on the cargo truck he was travelling in at a checkpoint near al-Khattaf village after he passed through it without stopping for inspection.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that, through this killing, SDF has once again violated international human rights law, and that the perpetrators must be held accountable.
