Damascus – The Syrian government condemned on Sunday the Israeli occupation government’s meeting held in the Golan Heights, describing it as “provocative, irresponsible and void in both form and content.”

In this context, the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry addressed two letters to the United Nations and UN Security Council, stressing that “Syria condemns, in the strongest terms, the Israeli occupation government’s holding of this provocative meeting in the occupied Syrian Golan, an invalid move in both form and content.”

The Ministry, thus, called upon the UN to “intervene immediately to condemn such an irresponsible meeting, and demand that this reckless action not be repeated, particularly as it is held on an occupied Syrian territory.”

“Syria today places the United Nations before its obligations and duties of implementing General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, which did not recognize the Israeli occupation of Syrian territory,” the Ministerial letter went on.

The Syrian Ministry urged the United Nations and international community “to carry out their responsibilities regarding the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, so as to put an end to the occupation of the Syrian Golan as stipulated by UN Resolution #497, in addition to condemning all types and forms of Israeli terrorism against Syrian people in the occupied Golan, and against the territorial integrity, safety and unity of the Syrian Arab Republic.”
