The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 17,100 today, while hopes of finding survivors under the rubble fade amid freezing weather, according to AFP.

Officials and medics announced that 14,014 people died in Turkey and 3,162 in Syria, bringing the confirmed death toll to 17,176.
