FOR THE FIRST TIME, SYRIAN MEDICAL TEAM SUCCESSFULLY SEPARATES CONJOINED TWIN
A Syrian medical team of Tishreen University Hospital, in Lattakia, has successfully separated two identical twin boys, conjoined at the abdominal area, in the first of its kind operation on Syria’s level.
Speaking to SANA, Surgeon, Dr. Ammar Omran, said that, the conjoined twin was attached at the abdominal area, and there is a fusion at the intestine, liver and a small part of the rib cage.
During the operation, the medical team separated the intestines and blood vessels between the twin, and then the team re created the abdominal cavity, to return the intestines into it.
The boys are doing well, Omran said, adding that, they are currently receiving respiratory support, at the ICU of the Hospital.
