FRANCE ALLOCATES 12 MILLION EUROS TO THE SYRIAN PEOPLE

France announced today that it will allocate emergency aid to the population of Syria amounting to 12 million euros following the violent earthquake, according to Agence France-Presse.

French Foreign Ministry spokesman Francois Delmas said that the aid will be distributed “in contact with non-governmental organizations and the United Nations, in all areas affected by the earthquake,” explaining that this does not change France’s “political approach” towards Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Of the 12 million, 5 million will be allocated to the mechanism for the delivery of humanitarian aid across borders of the United Nations, and another five million will be allocated to “several French and international non-governmental organizations concerned with rapid intervention and concerned with the areas of health, securing shelters, water, sanitation and food security,” according to Francois Delmas.

In addition, a study is underway regarding a contribution of two million euros in the framework of the programmed food aid, with the aim of meeting the urgent food needs of the Syrians.
