Future bloc: Nasrallah cannot impose Aoun as sole candidate for presidency
Future bloc categorically underlined the dire need for respecting the Constitution in all its provisions in structuring authority in Lebanon, stressing that Hizbollah cannot impose General Aoun as the sole candidate for presidency.
“Recent utterances by Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah over clinging once again to Aoun as the Party’s candidate to presidency fall within his right… However, such a right does not entitle him to impose Aoun as the sole candidate for presidency,” the bloc said in a statement on Tuesday in the wake of its periodic meeting at the Central House, under the chairmanship of bloc head, Fouad Siniora.
The bloc reportedly discussed the overall situation in the country.
Future also considered that the issue of the election of the President of the Republic and Speaker of the House, as well as the nomination of the Prime Minister is national matters par excellence, rather than confessional or sectarian ones.
“Choosing a president of the republic in Lebanon is a strategic matter of general national dimensions,” bloc said, emphasizing that the election of the president remains the key national priority.
On the tenth commemoration Israeli aggression in 2006, the bloc saluted the sacrifices of the heroic martyrs of the resistance, who fought Israel and foiled its dangerous plots against Lebanon, and paid tribute to the resilience and exemplary solidarity demonstrated by the Lebanese people in rallying around each other in preserving national unity.
Future also brought to attention the great efforts undertaken by the political resistance government in this regard, which enabled Lebanon to maintain resilience and achieve victory, notably in changing the international public opinion, on one hand, and the proposal of outlets via the accomplishment of the seven points and the issuance of UN Resolution #1701.
The Bloc also reiterated call on Hizbollah to reconsider its current policy towards putting swift terms to its involvement in the Arab wars, starting from Syria to Iraq and Yemen.
Future called on Hizbollah to take note once again of the Lebanese national interest and the Lebanese state and to abandon its illegitimate weapons in the interests of national sovereignty, enabling the State to extend its full authority over all Lebanese territories.
The bloc fervently deplored the attack on the Lebanese army patrol in the vicinity of Arsal region, calling on the army to continue countering aggressors and defending Arsal and its people.
