Manama: In cooperation with the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and Bahrain Polytechnic, Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill (GARMCO) welcomed its first batch of the Apprenticeship Program in the Mechanical Engineering Department. The programme aims to enhance the technical skills in the labour market by supporting new graduates from the industrial field and providing them with the necessary expertise and skills to become highly efficient technicians.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Fahad Al Basam, Executive Manager of Administrative Affairs, stated that the apprenticeship programme offers students a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering over a span of three years. The initiative provides an opportunity to combine both academic learning and practical on-the-job training (OJT), where academic learning constitutes 30% of the program, while practical training comprises 70%.
The emphasis on OJT ensures that students are exposed to a real working environment, ultimately giving them a competitive advantage in the labor market by equ
ipping them with knowledge and experiences primarily accessible in the field. Fahad Al Basam added that this programme reflects GARMCO’s commitment to social responsibility by investing in the next generation of technicians and providing opportunities for Bahraini cadres from all educational tracks.
GARMCO has implemented several programmes and training courses to support Bahraini youth in the industrial sector. This programme is a continuation of the company’s vision and dedication to investing in human capital.
