GCC Secretary General: Standardization Committee Accredits 17 Gulf Technical Regulations

Doha: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the council’s Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs endorsed several decisions supporting the Gulf standardization process and adopted 17 new draft Gulf technical regulations for goods and products in different sectors. It also withdrew two draft Gulf technical regulations.

Albudaiwi’s remarks came during a speech he delivered today at the seventh consultative meeting of the committee, which was held in Doha, State of Qatar. The meeting was chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, the Qatari minister of commerce and industry and chairman of the current session, in the presence of ministers of trade and industry and the heads of the Councils of Federations and Chambers in the GCC countries.

The GCC secretary general said that the committee discussed topics related to enhancing the quality of products and services in the GCC countries and ensuring the safety of products traded in the GCC Common Mar
ket, explaining that the committee adopted new Gulf technical regulations, and approved the conversion of 39 Gulf technical regulations into Gulf standard specifications. It also approved the authority’s final account for the fiscal year 2023.

The GGC Ministerial Committee for Standardization performs its activities in the various fields of standardization, and aims to unify the various standardization activities and follow up on their application and adherence to them in cooperation and coordination with the standardization bodies in the GCC states in a way that contributes to the development of intra trade, protection of the consumer, the environment and public health, and the encouragement of Gulf industries and products to support the Gulf economy.
