GEOSA Participates in the Meeting of UN-GGKIC: IAC in China


Beijing, The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) participated in the meeting of the International Advisory Committee of the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in the People’s Republic of China. The GEOSA was represented by its President, who is also the Chairman of the UN-GGIM Arab States Committee for Geospatial Information Management, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Yahya Al-Sayel.

The meeting covered various agenda items, such as reviewing and refining the Committee’s strategic plan and the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Network’s annual plan. Discussions also encompassed the Committee’s operations, criteria for referral and membership, and alignment with its work program within the framework plan. Additionally, deliberations delved into the Committee’s working methods, advisory role, and responsibilities.

Moreover, topics included mandates and the execution of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC 2022/24), UN-GGIM processes related to the S
ustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF).

The UN-GGKIC: IAC aims to foster global geospatial capabilities and competencies while establishing geospatial knowledge and innovation centers in countries. These centers aim to leverage mechanisms, techniques, and analyses in geospatial information fields for mutual benefit.
