Gov’t denies delaying application of ACI system

The Cabinet’s information center denied reports on delaying the application of the Advanced Cargo Information (ACI) system for three months.

In a statement on Saturday 06/11/2021, the center said it contacted the Ministry of Finance which dismissed the news as baseless, adding that the system has been already put into effect since October.

The Advanced Cargo Information system is a World Customs Organization protocol that provides real-time information on transactions and operations before, during and after arrival of goods, according to guidelines issued by the Finance Ministry.

It is meant to further regulate work at all Egyptian ports, the center said, adding that 11,000 importers and over 50,000 exporters have been registered on the ACI system so far.

The new system is meant to cut importation and exportation cost, reduce prices of commodities and services in local market, promote Egyptian exports, incentivize investments, and improve Egypt’s ranking on international competitiveness indexes, it pointed out.

The center called on media and social media users to ensure the authenticity of any news being circulated to avoid spreading erroneous information and confusing public opinion.
