GPIC board chairman opens solar energy project

Manama, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Board of Directors Chairman of the Gulf Petrochemical Company (GPIC), today inaugurated a solar energy project at the company.

The project is within the framework of GPIC’s continuous support for the use of renewable energy sources, and efforts to preserve the environment and protect it from pollutants.

It is also considered one of the environmental projects it is implementing inside and around the industrial complex, in support of the kingdom’s policies to reduce carbon emissions, in a way that would contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

The new project was established in GPIC’s employee parking lot with the aim of making the most of solar energy as it is the most abundant renewable resource available in the Kingdom. In this regard, the company was keen to provide all the requirements for this project, which is an important step towards sustainability.

During the official opening of the project, held in the presence of Yasser Abdulrahim Al Abbasi, GPIC C
hief Executive Officer, Kamal bin Ahmed commended the efforts made by the company’s work team to make this sustainable project a reality, adding that the project will support the kingdom’s vision and aspirations for a sustainable future. He emphasised the company’s environmental policies, reflected in its keenness to implement creative environmental projects within its industrial complex.

While outlining the multiple advantages of the project, GPIC Chairman said that the new solar energy system would contribute to the production of approximately 2,900 kilowatt-hours daily, which will save energy on the one hand, and preserve the environment, on the other.

Yasser Al Abbasi expressed the keenness of GPIC’s management to implement the company’s strategic plan 2040, which was developed by the Board of Directors to implement the gradual shift towards alternative energy, noting that the company will expand this project in the future given its positive results in saving energy and protecting the environment.

He i
ndicated that the new solar energy system was installed with roof structures in the employee parking lot, noting that the project was carried out successfully by a national company.

He unveiled that the project will generate a total of 1,072 megawatt-hours per year, which are quantities that will play an important role in the company’s energy strategy. He added that an electronic panel will be installed to show energy indicators and results throughout the year, which will facilitate the follow-up of the extent of the impact achieved by the project.

GPIC Board of Directors Chairman paid tribute to Bahraini competencies who have implemented the project, which is among GPIC’s 2040 strategy.
