The President of the Council of Ministers Saad Hariri said: “We united around stability and security and moved the country forward. We approved a budget and a new electoral law”, adding that “the consensus is clear and significant, and we will continue this for the sake of the country.”

Hariri, who was addressing the members of the honorary consular corps headed by Joseph Habis, whom he received at the Grand Serail, said: “We must try to do the best we can to serve Lebanon economically, politically and socially, especially that the country is living under the pressure of the Syrian displacement and the economic problem. But all will be fine as long as there is national unity. We united around stability and security and moved the country forward”.

He said: “You represent this consensus, and we must keep this spirit to strengthen the relations between the countries you represent and Lebanon. I am ready to resolve any issue through coordination between you and me, and with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because we are all here to serve the country.

We are heading towards big projects such as the Paris conference, which will be a major breakthrough for the national economy and will focus on developing the infrastructure. This is an opportunity for you to attract investment from big companies. There is also the Rome conference to arm and train the Lebanese army and security forces. We will present strategies about this. This is a useful topic for you because there are countries that have expertise in the subject, and we all have to work on all levels.

There is the Brussels conference on Syrian refugees, which we should also focus on. It is possible to inform you on these projects and we hope that you will play a constructive role for the benefit of Lebanon”.

Hariri stressed the necessity of a women’s quota within the honorary consuls corps in the future.

The Dean of the Corps Joseph Habis said:

“We are pleased to meet with you today to congratulate you on the New Year, and wish you good health and success in your responsibilities at the head of the Government. We want to express our great appreciation for the Lebanese consensus on your person and for your wisdom in managing the work of the Council of Ministers and the achievements you accomplished in a few months.

You did not disappoint the Lebanese and were up to the challenge, a statesman who spreads optimism and who is attached to coexistence.

The recent circumstances have shown the popular, political and national consensus around you. You succeeded in weaving consensus and mutual respect with all parties. This is exactly the primary responsibility of the Prime Minister.

You restored international confidence in the future of Lebanon. We are here today to state that we put all our potential at your disposal to move together in consolidating the best relations of fraternity and friendship with our surrounding and the world, and to return to the international spotlight.”

Hariri also received the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard and discussed with her the latest developments.

He met with the Minister for National Defense of Greece Panos Kammenos and the accompanying delegation in the presence of the Minister of Defense Yaacoub Sarraf and discussed the situation and bilateral relations.

Hariri also received the Minister of State for Planning Michel Pharaon in the presence of the Minister of Culture Ghattas Khoury.

He met with a delegation from the family of late Pierre Sadek who invited him to sponsor a Pierre Sadek’s exhibition which opens on February 7th at the Sursock Museum.
