Hariri receives Lebanese delegation to HLPF

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri received today at the Center House the official Lebanese delegation that will participate in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development HLPF that will be held in New York from July 16 to 19.

The delegation includes representatives of the President of the Republic, the Parliament Speaker, the Prime Minister, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Economy and Environment and civil society.

It will present Lebanon’s first Voluntary National Review VNR on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The report was according to directives from Prime Minister Hariri through the Office of the President of the Council of Ministers, in cooperation with all concerned departments, and specifically with members of the National Committee formed by the Council of Ministers headed by Hariri.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Hariri highlighted these points: the importance of building Lebanese institutional capacities to accompany sustainable development, the importance of obtaining international support through soft loans and grants to implement the sustainable development agenda, the participation of the private sector to implement this agenda and the role of civil society that complements the state and the private sector.

Prime Minister Hariri also said that the implementation of this agenda will be a difficult task as Lebanon continues to bear the burdens of the Syrian displacement and its impact on the economy, environment, infrastructure and services.

The Lebanese delegation to the forum is headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Ghassan Hasbani and includes MP Dima Jamali, the Director General of the Ministry of Economy Alia Abbas, the Director General of the Ministry of Education Fadi Yarak, Ambassador Caroline Ziade, Engineer Ibrahim Barbari representing the President of the Republic, the Economic Adviser to Prime Minister Hariri, Hazar Caracalla, Ola Sidani, economic advisor at the Presidency of the Council of minsters, and Rita Rohayem, representing civil society.
