Health Minister attends seminar on HIV

Under the patronage of Dr. Jalila bint Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, a seminar on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), holistic treatment and prevention was organised by the Ministry of Health and King Hamad American Mission Hospital, in collabration with the United States Embassy in Bahrain.

The event was attended by David P. Brownstein, Deputy Chief Mission at the US Embassy in Bahrain.

Dr. Jameela Al Salman, committee member of The National Committee to Combating AIDS, extended her thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the unwavering support that the health sector receives, in line with Bahrain’s commitment to achieving its sustainable development goals.

Dr. Al Salman said that Bahrain provides comprehensive health services that cover providing care for AIDS patients and raising awareness to combat the disease.

The minister highlighted Bahrain’s efforts in controlling diseases and achieving sustainable goals in combating AIDS to fulfill the World Health Organization vision of “Zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths”.

She stressed that this could be achieved through primary prevention programmes, early diagnosis, prevention of complications of AIDS/HIV and avoiding discrimination against AIDS patients, while ensuring fairness and equality.

The Minister expressed her thanks and appreciation to the US Embassy in Bahrain, King Hamad American Mission Hospital for their support in organizing this seminar that aims to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS.

On his part, US Embassy Deputy Chief Mission Brownstein thanked the Health Minister and Dr. George Cheriyan, AMH Corporate CEO and Chief Medical Officer, for hosting the seminar and praised Bahrain’s efforts in combating HIV.

He affirmed that seminars such as these reflect the long standing partnership between Bahrain and the US in all fields, including in the health sector. He commended efforts made by the Kingdom in enhancing the public health sector and patients care as well as protecting the rights of people living with AIDS.
