Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Nassif Hitti, held talks with his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio in Rome on Monday.

 

The pair reportedly discussed an array of affairs of common interest, with Hitti explaining to his host the aspects of the economic crisis in Lebanon and its social and financial repercussions.

 

They also dwelt on the regional situation in Syria and Libya; the two men reiterated support for the peaceful political situation to the Syrian conflict, and the right to auto-determination of the Syrian and Libyan people.

 

Moreover, both officials highlighted the importance of the role played by the UNIFIL in preserving stability in south Lebanon.

 

They also underlined the necessity to cling stability in Lebanon, by encouraging small and medium enterprises and startups, and considering the means to undertake joint projects in support for the Lebanese economy.

 

In addition, Di Maio confirmed Italy’s commitment to helping Lebanon and solving its economic and financial crisis.

 

“The International Monetary Fund is the first door that must be knocked to reach a solution,” he said.
