His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, has extended deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, SCYS Chairman, following the success of Winfred Yavi in winning the Diamond League 2023 for women’s 3,000m steeplechase, and achieving the second-fastest performance of all time.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad attributed the exploit to the unwavering care of HM the King, support of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and interest of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad in all sports.
HH Shaikh Khalid lauded Yavi’s success in achieving the second-best time in history, as well as breaking her personal, Asian and the championship’s record, which reflects her high level and ability to claim the women’s 3,000m steeplechase gold medal at Paris Olympic Games 2024.
Athlete Winfred Yavi clinched the first place in the Diamond League Final in Eugene, clocking 8:50.66 to add a first Diamond League title to the world gold she gained in Budapest.
