IBRAHIM OVERSEES ARRIVAL OF ALBANIAN FAMILIES TO BEIRUT AIRPORT FROM SYRIA: RETURN OF LEBANESE DETAINEES REQUIRES A POLITICAL DECISION

A number of Albanian families who were detained in camps belonging to the “Qasd” militias in Syria arrived at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport after midnight, in preparation for their transfer to their country, under the supervision of the Lebanese Public Security, NNA correspondent reported this morning.

Public Security Director-General, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, supervised the travel of 19 members of the Albanian families who were detained in Syria in camps belonging to the so-called “Qasd” militias, in the presence of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who came to Lebanon to accompany said families to back to Albania on a private plane from Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut. Also present was Albanian Minister of Interior Bledar Cuci and Albanian Consul in Lebanon Mark Gharib, and a number of senior Lebanese Public Security officers.

Ibrahim held a joint press conference at the Airport’s VIP Hall with the Albanian Prime Minister, in which he said: “This operation is a continuation of previous operations carried out at the request of the country’s head of state, friendly Albania, to recover a group of women and children who were detained for a long time in the Qasd camps in northeastern Syria. After much trouble and about two years of negotiations, the children and women have returned.”

He added: “I consider this day, a day of freedom for Lebanon, a day of giving for Lebanon towards the international community and towards our friends in the world.”

“We are continuing this march, the march of restoring freedom to the peoples who ask us for this service or who request assistance in returning their children, women, detainees and kidnapped to the arms of their homeland,” Ibrahim emphasized.

“The most important thing for us and for Lebanon is restoring freedom to man,” he maintained.

For his part, the Albanian Prime Minister said: “It is a great honor for me to cooperate with the Director General of Public Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, as the cooperation led to the success of the step of restoring Albanian families from the camps in northern Syria,” and praised Major General Ibrahim’s humanity and professionalism in completing this step.

He pointed out that “what happened today brings good news to the Albanian people, and we will continue the work to recover all the Albanians in those camps.” He reiterated his thanks to Major General Ibrahim and all the sides that helped to make this step a success.

In conclusion, Major General Ibrahim underlined “the positive role played by Lebanon,” commending the great efforts exerted by the Public Security members and staff and their high sense of professionalism in overcoming all obstacles in order to save people’s lives.

Ibrahim also stressed in response to a question about the possibility of taking any step towards the Lebanese detainees, that “certainly we are ready but this is a political decision that must be taken, and I am ready to implement it.”
