Integrated Health, WASH, RCCE Sectors Syria weekly situation Report, AWD/Cholera, 2 – 8 December 2022

A. Distribution of AWD and cholera cases by governorate (as per MoH and EWARS focal points in NES), as of 3 December 2022

As of 3 December 2022, a total of 9,610 acute watery diarrhea cases, including 49 associated death cases (CFR=0.51) were reported in Syria by MoH and EWARS sites in northeast Syria (NES) cumulatively over the weeks.

All 14 governorates in Syria reported AWD cases and cholera was confirmed in 13 of them distributed as following: Deir Ez-Zor (3,097 cases, 32.23%), Aleppo (2,965 cases, 30.85%), Raqqa (1,685 cases, 17.53%), Hassakah (1,182 cases, 12.3%), Lattakia (174 cases, 1.81%), Hama (149 cases, 1.55%), Damascus (101 cases, 1.05%), Swida (83 cases, .86%), Rural Damascus (55 cases, .57%), Homs (54 cases, .56%), Tartous (28 cases, .29%), Qunitera (19 cases, .2%), Daraa (18 cases, .19%).

115 cases of AWD were detected in 12 IDP camps and settlements, of which only 5 tested positive by the RDT: 2 in Serykanie camp, 1 in Areesha in Hassakeh governorate, and 2 cases in Al-Nirab camp in Aleppo. No deaths associated to acute watery diarrhea were reported at the IDPs camps. Despite the high number of reported cases in Syria, IDP camps were not affected as expected due to the limited movement (reducing the exposure to imported cases) and focused WASH activities in the camps
