Minister of Information, Jamal Al-Jarrah, said in an interview with Radio Lebanon today that he mourned the loss of Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir in a few words, describing him as “Patriarch of the Word, Wisdom and Independence,” and asking him to keep his eyes on Lebanon from up above.

“Patriarch Sfeir summarized the national political position in a few words,” said Jarrah, adding that the late Patriarch “expressed his rejection of the Syrian guardianship over Lebanon and of course laid the foundation Lebanon’s second independence.”

“During his time, Lebanon passed through difficult and harsh conditions…so had it not been for the Patriarch’s wisdom, awareness and guidance, Lebanon would not have been rescued from the threats of extinction,” he asserted.

“With the loss of Patriarch Sfeir, we lose a great man of wisdom and a national figure of exceptional historical leadership who gave to Lebanon a lot, and I hope that this sensible national sovereignty path would persist, with keenness on preserving national unity and stability in Lebanon,” Jarrah corroborated.

He concluded by expressing his deepest condolences to the Lebanese people in general and the Maronite Patriarchate in particular, asking God Almighty to rest the late Patriarch’s soul in peace.
