Joint press conference for Egyptian, Albanian PMs after expanded talks

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that “today’s strong and resilient Egypt which enjoys significant regional influence is the result of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s wisdom, acumen and insightful vision.”

Rama was addressing journalists during a joint news briefing with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli after their expanded consultation meeting on Saturday, in the presence of some cabinet ministers from Egypt and Albania

Rama said he was glad by his meeting with President Sisi earlier today, asserting his country’s support of the president’s strenuous efforts to build the Egyptian state.

Accentuating the historical role played by Muhammad Ali Pasha whose parents were of Albanian origin to build modern Egypt, the Albanian premier said he felt great pride in highlighting the deeply rooted ties between both nations.

“It is up to us now to build on our cooperation and strengthen our ties,” the Albanian prime minister said to Madbouli during the joint news conference.

Rama also thanked Madbouli for his enthusiasm for holding meetings of the Egyptian-Albanian committee to explore cooperation opportunities.

He said that he looks forward to a promising future for bilateral trade ties, voicing a strong interest in launching a direct flight route between Cairo and Tirana.

Meanwhile, Madbouli said that the Albanian official’s current visit is of special importance, as it speaks of the historical relationship between both countries over the past decades.

He added that today’s talks with the Albanian delegation covered regional and international issues of mutual concern, along with aspects of mutual cooperation in various domains, including tourism, energy, trade, and culture.

Both sides have also agreed on the significance of the first session of the joint committee on economic, scientific, and technical cooperation, which the Albanian capital will host next month, Madbouli noted.

The Albanian prime minister arrived in Cairo on a formal two-day visit, leading a delegation that groups the Albanian interior and culture ministers along with several senior officials.
