AMMAN, Jordan, The Jordanian foreign minister, on Sunday, warned against the rising tension in southern Syria, urging all parties to respect the deescalation zone deal.

The solution to the crisis in Syria should be a political one, and Jordan is working with the U.S. and Russia, to uphold a cease-fire in southern Syria, Ayman Safadi said, on his official Twitter account.

“Jordan is doing all it can to meet the needs of 1.3 million Syrians. It cannot host more and the consequences of new escalation are the responsibility of those behind it,” the minister said.

The continued fighting means more killing and destruction for the Syrians, Safadi noted.

Earlier in the day, a government official confirmed that, Jordan cannot receive more Syrian refugees.

“Jordan has already received a large number of Syrian refugees, and simply cannot receive more,” the official said, on condition of anonymity.

Last year, Jordan, the U.S. and Russia, reached an agreement, to establish a temporary deescalation zone, in southern Syria, to help restore stability, and allow humanitarian aid into the region.
