King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) signed yesterday here a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the water and sanitation sector in Kassala and Gedaref states, in the Republic of Sudan, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah and UNDP Director-General Achim Steiner.
The assistance, worth $3,500,000 will benefit 833,520 individuals directly and 5 million individuals indirectly.
Solar energy systems will be installed at ten new water plants, in addition to expanding water distribution points. Water collection and storage containers will be distributed to the most vulnerable families, and water treatment tablets will be distributed to treat drinking water.
Hygiene kits will be provided to needy families, and handwashing material will be distributed to 54 school
s and clubs. Publications reaching 10,000 people will raise awareness about the importance of personal hygiene.
The agreement is part of a series of humanitarian and relief projects related to the water and environmental sanitation sector implemented by the Kingdom to improve the quality of life, provide sustainable solutions for the environment, and reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics in needy countries worldwide.
