Lavrov: Russia working on appropriate circumstances for settlement in Syria

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated Wednesday that Russia is working on finding the appropriate circumstances to push for political settlement in Syria.

This came in Lavrov’s meeting with Syrian counterpart Faisal Al-Meqdad in capital city of Moscow, reported the ministry’s website.

Lavrov affirmed necessity of a just settlement to the Syrian situation in accordance with Security Council resolution 2254 ensuring Syria’s territorial integrity.

The Middle East is bearing witness to change, especially in regards to Syria, commented Lavrov, adding that Moscow will encourage positive changes in Arab world temperament during awaited League of Arab states meeting with Russia.

On Gulf countries, Lavrov mentioned that Russia worked in cooperation with Arab countries to guarantee safety in Arabian Gulf, describing the China sponsored Saudi-Iranian pact as a significant event.
