Lebanese Forces challenges Naturalization Decree before State Council

The Lebanese Forces Party and a number of its deputies, namely Antoine Habshi, Georges Oqais, Joseph Isaac and Fadi Saad, filed a challenge before the State Shura Council into the decree of naturalization.

The challenge was submitted by lawyer Eliane Fakhry and it argued “the absence of explanation of the reasons for granting citizenship to hundreds of Palestinians and Syrians, let alone violating the preamble of the Constitution.”

“It also contradicts with the probe and administrative track to be followed for the granting of citizenship provided for in the Lebanese Citizenship Law No. 15/1992 and its amendments. Moreover, (…) it includes a major mistake as the authority exploited its powers for purposes far from serving public interests,” the challenge read.
