The Council of the Maronite Bishops on Wednesday urged Lebanon’s politicians to solve the political and unpolitical hurdles impeding the formation of the new government, renewing Patriarch Beshara Rahi’s call to form a mini Cabinet composed of independent specialists.

“The Fathers vehemently urge all those concerned with the state affairs to surpass the political and unpolitical impediments delaying the government formation, and to agree immediately on a lineup that should be capable of withstanding challenges,” the Maronite Bishops said in a statement following their periodic meeting under Patriarch Rahi’s chairmanship in Bkirki.

“The Fathers maintain the Patriarch’s call to form a mini government of independent specialists able to shoulder the rescue mission,” they added.

On a different note, the Fathers voiced concerns over “some practices that are swerving Lebanon’s particularity, which is based upon coexistence, mutual respect, and the consecration of the freedom of religion.”
