MAWLAWI FROM GENERAL SECURITY: WE ARE HERE TO SECURE INSTITUTION’S NEEDS DESPITE DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES

Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Bassam Mawlawi, on Monday visited Lebanon’s General Security’s Directorate, which he deemed the ‘Directorate of Security and Administration.’ “The sacrifices of Lebanon’s General Security are admired, appreciated, and respected by the Ministry of Interior and by the political authorities alike,’ Mawlawi said, lauding the General Security’s ‘sacrifices managing citizens’ affairs.” Emphasizing full support for the General Security and its director, Mawlawi added, “We are here to secure the institution’s needs despite the difficult circumstances.” In turn, the General Security’s Acting Director, Brigadier General Elias Al-Bisri, affirmed that “obtaining passports is a right for every Lebanese citizen; thus, they are secure and sufficient.” However, Al-Bisri called on citizens not to rush to general security offices yet, as “the directorate is in the process of preparing a new book of conditions for passports.” Al-Bisri further noted that the General Security ‘has been following up on the Syrian refugee dossier since 2017 and has been conducting return trips to Syria. We continue to work on this file, hoping to reach quick solutions.”
